Fresh Fish &Traditional Fish & Chip Shop 

Johnny Morton started selling fish around Ballycastle and the surrounding rural areas over 100 years ago.  We have been told that he came back home with money or other times it could be potatoes, eggs or maybe turf as payment.  The next generation Sean, Maureen, Teresa and Margaret all worked to keep the fish business going. Today Morton’s still remains very much a family business.

The fresh fish shop and the fish and chip shop trade along side each other at the harbour area of Ballycastle.  Our fish are caught locally when possible or obtained from fishermen at the fishing ports of Greencastle in Donegal, Portavogie in County Down.  The fish shop has two refrigerated counters displaying our fresh fish and our cooked shellfish.


Our normal selection of fresh fish include:

Cod, Haddock, Hake, Whiting, Monkfish, Plaice, Salmon, Lemon sole, Dover sole, Trout, Sea bass, Smoked cod, Smoked Haddock, Mackerel, Kippers, Mussels, live Lobster, live Crab and Langoustines.  By pre-ordering we will endeavour to supply any fish that is available on the market.

Local Ballycastle chef Mr Paul Black has helped and guided us on our recipe for the very popular Homemade creamy smoked fish chowder and our Homemade Crab cakes.
